North & East residents have organized a Neighborhood CERT Emergency Preparedness Team and we want you to join us! In Richmond, we may experience various natural disasters and exposure to possible refinery accidents that may cause emergency workers to be stretched thin. Therefore, to help with recovery, every resident should obtain CERT training to avoid becoming a victim so you can protect yourself, your family and your neighborhood. CERT is a FEMA program specifically designed for residents to learn basic training in emergency preparedness and survival. You will learn about: medical triage, basic first aid, hazard mitigation, fire safety & suppression, light search & rescue, and damage assessment. The Richmond Fire Dept. provides CERT training free of charge and you can register for the class above. The North & East is the largest neighborhood in the city and it is critical for residents to obtain training and to join our CERT Team of volunteers. We conduct ongoing training and we work on neighborhood preparedness. We recently participated in 2-way radio training, built rescue boards, (we are learning how to properly use the boards) and we are conducting medical first aid refresher training. Due to confidentiality rules, the city cannot provide the names of residents who have already participated in CERT training, therefore we are asking all North & East neighbors who are CERT-trained to send an email to our Team Captain, Angelina Rocco, at anelsonesq@sbcglobal.net, so we can compile our own resource list of CERT-trained residents who can help our neighborhood. We are fundraising to buy handheld radios and other emergency cache supplies.  All North & East residents are invited to join our Team which meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Richmond Auditorium at 403 Civic Center St., Richmond, CA 94804.  Remember CERT training does not replace professionally trained first responders who are best equipped to handle emergencies and should be called whenever possible by dialing 9-1-1.
