You’ve probably heard about Community Policing and how the Police Department and residents work together to eliminate criminal activity.  You’ve probably also heard of the Broken Windows theory and how it’s important to keep small problems from turning into larger ones.  This is the Community part of those solutions!

Your North & East neighbors have formed a neighborhood watch patrol in order to maintain and improve the quality of life we all enjoy.  The patrol’s purpose is to:

  • Take ownership of our neighborhood and foster a sense of community through increased awareness and participation.
  • Provide a roving, highly visible, regular patrol as a supplemental deterrent to vandalism, drug dealing, and property crimes.
  • Distribute informational literature on the N&E Neighborhood Council, neighborhood online forums, Crime Prevention tips, and other community resources.
  • Identify and report via COR-Connect any significant code violations.

These motivated individuals gather several times a week at Burg Park for a 60 min – 90 min patrol in a different areas of our neighborhood.  You may have seen them already – a group of people with flashlights, safety vests, and mobile phones – laughing and talking as they go for an after-dinner stroll down our streets.  Dogs are welcome!

Come and join us!  It’s great exercise, you’re never alone, and you’ll really get to know your neighbors and neighborhood.   Even if you can only participate once a week you’ll still make a big difference.

Here’s how to join us:

STEP 1: Sign up to the team email list at to follow the patrol scheduling and group discussions. You MUST include your name, address, and mobile/home phone number so we can make sure that all team members are N&E residents.

STEP 2: Make sure you have a good flashlight and an inexpensive yellow safety vest.  You can buy both of these at a 20% discount at the El Cerrito Home Depot.  Just ask for a manager and tell him you’re with our group and that we receive this discount.

If you have any questions, please email the North & East Patrol Administrator at .
