Every officer, Every day, on Every street

After four young people were shot to death in Richmond in December 2000, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote an editorial asking "Where is the outrage?". They asked why city officials were not leading efforts to find solutions. A group of residents from five Richmond neighborhoods, including the North & East, began to explore how to make city government more responsive. They created Residents for Community Involved Policing.

The goal is to promote government that responds to residents' concerns, where residents and the city work together to identify and solve problems, where residents are respected and have a voice. The group decided to start with the Police Department to make Community Involved Policing come to life in Richmond. CIP is successful across the country and in other police departments in the Bay Area. It can work in Richmond.

The group drafted a description of what goals and activities could make CIP happen in Richmond (click here to read the description)

Candidates running for Mayor and City Council in November 2001 all committed to implementing CIP and the City Council approved a resolution establishing a short-term Community Policing Advisory Board to make recommendations for policies that would establish CIP in Richmond.
